Specifics rather than reassurance. Ask about any of it on a tour and we will show you the door, the log or the certificate.
Getting in
- The outer door is locked during operating hours.
- Visitors are admitted by an educator, never buzzed in blind.
- Every entry is logged with a name and a time.
- Contractors and visitors are never left alone with children.
Getting out
- Only the people named on your authorized pickup list may collect your child.
- Photo identification is checked the first time somebody new collects, every time, including grandparents.
- Changes to your list are made in person or in writing, not over the phone.
- If somebody arrives who is not on the list, we call you before anything else happens.
Staff screening and training
- A current police information check including the vulnerable sector screening, before a first shift with children.
- Child care first aid and CPR kept current for staff on shift.
- Alberta child care certification on file for every educator.
- Mandatory reporting duties covered at orientation and revisited annually.
Illness
- Children with fever, vomiting or diarrhoea stay home, and we will call you to collect if it starts here.
- We follow Alberta Health Services guidance on exclusion periods rather than making it up per case.
- Medication is given only with written authorization, in its original labelled container.
- Every dose given is recorded and countersigned.
Cleaning
- Toys and surfaces sanitized on a written schedule, not when someone remembers.
- Anything mouthed by an infant goes straight into a bin for washing rather than back on the shelf.
- Handwashing before food, after outdoor play and after nappy changes, for adults as well as children.
When something goes wrong
- Written emergency, evacuation and lockdown procedures, practised with the children so the drill is not the first time.
- An off-site meeting point that staff can name without checking.
- Injury reports written the same day and given to you at pickup, including the minor ones.
- You are called about a head injury immediately, not at the end of the day.

A policy that only exists on a website is worse than no policy. If the door was propped open when you arrived, or nobody asked who you were, we want to hear about it from you rather than from an inspector.
